The pair will be taking part in the International Ultra Multi-Events European Championships at Cambridge.

Jim will be competing in the throws quadrathlon which comprises the hammer, shot, discus and javelin, whilst Kieran is in three individual events – javelin, shot and discus.

Jim said: “We are absolutely thrilled. It is Kieran’s first international event and he earns it at the same age that I got my first – 16. As his dad and coach, I have to say he thoroughly deserves this honour because he has worked so hard at his athletics this year, made all the harder due to him sitting his GCSEs as well.”

Last Thursday, Jim went to Biggleswade for their throws festival and won the discus with 25.84m, a decent effort on a windy evening.
