Rounds of 72, 77, 73 and an impressive closing 68 left Kimsey in joint 13th place, banking the former Walker Cup ace prizemoney of nearly 25,000 Euros.

Indian golfer S.S.P. Chawrasia successfully defended his title at the monster New Delhi course, which Kimsey described as ‘one of the toughest’ he’d ever played.

Kimsey’s battling performance over the four days of competition meant he was one of top European-based players.

He has now won almost 100,000 Euros in his first season on the European Tour.

Kimsey is ranked inside the tour’s top 100 players - ahead of some of golf’s biggest names.

Many competitors struggled in New Delhi with play suspended on the third day because of storms, strong winds and the threat of lightening.

Kimsey, who celebrates his birthday later this month, said: “It was a mentally draining week, to say the least.

“It was one of the toughest courses I’ve played so I’m happy to finish with a 68.”

That 68 featured three birdies over the closing five holes - said to be one of the most difficult closing sequences on the tour circuit.

Kimsey now has a break for a couple of weeks as there’s no tournament on the tour schedule. He will return to action on April 13 in the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco.
