After a 40 year hiatus, the Revesby races were back with a buzzing atmosphere as hoards of race-goers, trade stands and more than 60 entries descended on the estate.

Race-goers were treated to a packed programme with horses thundering past just metres away from the crowds and leaping over the hair-raising hurdles, all built by volunteers.

Spectators came from all over Lincolnshire - and beyond - for a great day out.

Katherine Howe, 22, said: “I’ve come from Doncaster for a day out with friends - and hopefully some winnings!”

Louth and Horncastle MP Victoria Atkins also attended and praised the return of the races.

She said: “I am delighted to be here with my family at the first races in 40 years.

“It’s wonderful to see the community get together and have some fun while celebrating rural life.”

Revesby’s ‘team’ of officials and volunteers were celebrating the success of the day.

Events and marketing manager Jennifer Evans described the turnout as ‘fantastic’ with almost 2,000 people through the fences by midday.

“The weather has held out. Everyone is happy so it’s brilliant.”

Point-to-point secretary Sally Spink said: “We’re really proud of how it’s gone today.

“The field has been packed with people.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to the 70 volunteers who have all given their time to run the day and make it happen.”

Not surprisingly, organisers are already looking at a date for 2018.
