Woodhall Spa Tennis Club’s teams have been busy on the courts with a series of home and away matches.

The final AEGON game of the season featured an excellent win for Woodhall against league leaders, St James from Grimsby.

Lydia Walker, Sam Parker and Alison Lauder all won their singles matches - Alison having to battle through three sets to secure hers.

Both doubles matches were won by Woodhall with Lydia and Sam winning in two sets and Alison and Sue Leggate winning in a third set tie-break.

Despite the win, the team narrowly missed out on promotion with St James having a better overall sets win-loss ratio.

Still, it has been a fine performance by the Woodhall ladies in their first year in the AEGON league.

The team are already looking forward to the challenge of winning next season.

The mixed team were away to Boston ‘3’ last week and despite fielding a strong team, lost the match 6-3.

Playing for Woodhall were Sam Parker and Dave Leggate - who secured three wins - Nick Shirley and Helen Mair, Ant Hawkins and Sue Bowser.

The Ladies first team have had four matches in as many weeks, winning two and losing two. The team excelled against Louth Indoor - who topped the league last summer- winning by seven rubbers to two.

Lydia Walker and Alison Lauder won all their rubbers, Sam Parker and Bridgett Scott won two and lost one, as did Helen Mair and Jenny Caswell.

The match against Bourne 1 was troubled by rain but Woodhall managed another 7-2 win. Playing on this occasion were Lydia Walker and Sue Leggate, Sam Parker and Alison Lauder, Jenny Caswell and Wendy Harrison.

The Woodhall team also travelled to Grimsby to play St James 1 who are always tough opponents and that proved to be the case again with Woodhall losing 3-6.

It was close, though, and two rubbers were lost on final set tie-breaks so the match could easily have gone in Woodhall’s favour.

Representing Woodhall were Lydia Walker and Sue Leggate, Sam Parker and Helen Mair, Jenny Caswell and Wendy Harrison.

The team’s latest match against Grantham 1 was again rain-interrupted.

This proved to be a very close encounter with Grantham squeezing through to a 5-4 win. Playing for Woodhall were Lydia Walker and Alison Lauder, Sue Bowser and Sam Parker, Bridgett Scott and Jenny Caswell.

The next social event for the club is an 80’s disco on Saturday July 12 at the Coronation Hall from 8pm until late.

Dress code is the 80’s. Tickets cost £10 (which includes burger). For further information, or to buy tickets, contact Jenny Caswell on 01526 353341.
