Woodhall Spa Tennis Club held their annual Open Mixed Tournament last weekend with couples taking part from Woodhall, Sleaford, Boston and Grimsby clubs.

The event was blessed with perfect weather and proved to be a very enjoyable competition as all the couples were evenly matched.

In the semi-finals Ros and Peter Elphick (Sleaford) played John and Joanne Watson (St James, Grimsby) with Ros and Pete winning 6-4. Meanwhile local players Robert and Bridgett Scott played Mick Audis and Linda Barrow (Boston) with the Boston duo winning 6-3. Mick and Linda went on to beat Ros and Pete in the final 6-4. Les Bowser, a past Chairman and member of Woodhall Spa Tennis Club for many years, presented the winning couple with the Bowser Cup.

On the following Wednesday evening, Woodhall Spa Tennis Club’s Mixed Team played Boston in the final of the Leggot Cup, a competition which Woodhall had never won.

However it proved to be Woodhall Spa’s night with a narrow 5-4 win to take the title. The winning team were Sam Parker and Robert Scott (who won all three rubbers), Ant Hawkins and Lydia Walker, Bridgett Scott and David Leggate.
