The senior boys team from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Horncastle have won a regional tennis title.
The line-up of Courtney George-Jones, Dan Dalton, Jamie Fixter and Rhody Asirvatham beat hosts Long Eaton High School and Sheffield High Storrs to capture the crown.
QEGS produced some impeccable tennis to triumph 6-0 against Long Eaton but they found High Storrs to be much more difficult opponents.
An overall score of 3-3 meant a championship tie break was in order with QEGS pinning their hopes on the pairing Courtney-Jones and Asirvatham.
The tie-break was close with no more than one point between the teams as both pairs served up some intriguing rallies and occasional aces.
However, the sheer determination of the QEGS duo came to the fore and they won the match by two clear points, 12-10 - much to the delight of their teammates.
It was the perfect end to the season for the QEGS quartet who won the county league during the summer to qualify for the regional finals.
Last month, the senior girls tennis team reached the final four of a national competition which attracted almost 3,000 entries - proof that QEGS can hold court against anyone!
