Horncastle Tennis Club’s junior teams started their Aegon County matches at the weekend.

On Saturday the U12 team hosted the match against Bourne Tennis Club. Playing for Horncastle were Ben Tyrrell, Ross Armstrong, Freddie Dobbin and Charlie Tant.

The boys played some great tennis - Ben and Ross won their singles comfortably and Freddie fought hard to secure a very close 7-5 7-6 win.

Charlie lost his singles against a strong player from Bourne but showed how much he has improved recently. The boys went into the doubles round 3-1 up and Ross and Ben went 5-1 down before realising they needed to change tactics. They turned it round to take the rubber 7-5 6-0.

Freddie and Charlie lost their doubles, but the final result was an 8-4 victory for Horncastle.

On Sunday the u8 team played Louth. Playing this week were Max Wilson, Redford and Rowan Bramley and Hannah Downs.

Max showed his recently improved rating and took control of all his matches winning all four comfortably. Redford Bramley and Hannah Downs won one match each.

Despite fighting hard Rowan didn’t manage a win this week. Final result 10-6 to Louth.
