Horncastle Squash Club’s new £50,000 improvements have had the official seal of approval - from the town’s mayor.

Coun Fiona Martin was among the guests at a special event on Saturday to mark the opening of the new-look facilities.

The improvements, supported by Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Programme, feature a new heating system and re-furbished changing rooms.

A kitchen area has also been installed near to the bar and the club hopes the building will become a popular community facility.

The celebrations included a chance for people to try out squash and racketball while there was also a junior tournament.

Several of the club’s leading players took place in a series of exhibition games in the evening.

On court, Horncastle boosted their hopes of winning the Lincs League Division One title with a comprehensive win against Boston.

Horncastle needed to take maximum points from the fixture to stay clear at the top of the table.

Happily, there were no slip-ups from a three-strong team who all produced impressive performances.

Rob Cunningham and Ollie Fixter won their matches 3-0 while teenager Katie Wells battled to a 3-2 victory.
