Horncastle Rugby Union Club stage their first training session tonight (Tuesday) ahead of what they hope will be an exciting season.

The club has shrugged off fears about its future and is planning for a new campaign of Merit Table action.

They have already arranged one warm-up game against Bourne at Horncastle Playing Fields on August 23.

Chairman Dave Stow said the club was building a squad containing a blend of experience and younger players.

Newcomers are still welcome at training sessions which will be held at the club’s ground, starting at 7pm.

Mr Stow said: “Things are going really well. There’s a lot of enthusiasm and support for the club and we’re looking forward to the new season.

“We’ve got a number of older players who have stayed loyal to us and we’ve also attracted some younger lads.

“We’d still like to strengthen and anyone interested just needs to turn up at training.”
