Wragby’s record-breaking athlete Jim Gillespie has seen his run of red hot form halted by an untimely injury.
Gillespie, who had started the season by setting a string of Irish records, damaged his calf muscle in the Scottish Heptathlon Championships in Glasgow.
He now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Gillespie added: “I’m gutted. I’ll be out of full training for eight to 10 weeks.”
He’d started the Glasgow event - held at the Emirates Stadium - in impressive style.
He set a personal best in the 60 metres and added another PB in the shot putt.
Those impressive efforts were followed by a national record in the pole vault.
Gillespie ended the opening day with a reasonable long jump and his overall score was well ahead of the Irish record for the heptathlon.
