Banovallum Gymnastic Club is celebrating after some impressive performances in the Lincolnshire Senior Schools’ Floor and Vault Championships at Grantham.
In all, the club entered six competitors who were also representing their individual schools.
Mikki Taplin struck gold when she won the U-19 Level Two title with a very impressive floor routine that scored 9.05.
She added a well flighted vault to score 8.50 and a total of 17.65 earned the teenager, a pupil at QEGS Alford, a well deserved gold medal.
Mikki’s club colleague, Rebecca Johnson,finished fifth with a score of 16.00. She attends Skegness College.
In the U-19 Level One competition, QEGS Horncastle pupil Dani Rhodes secured a hard-earned bronze medal. She produced an elegant floor routine and demonstrated good flexibility to score 15.35,
In the U-13s Level Two competition, Christie Freeman (QEGS Alford) and Alisha Overton (Banovallum) did well to finish 11th and 19th respectively. Christie totalled 16.50 and Alisha 14.90.
There was a brave performance in the U-13 Level One event with Katie Porter (QEGS Horncastle) just missing out on a medal.
Katie scored 9.40 with an excellent vault and finished with an overall score of 16.65 - only 0.05 off a bronze medal.
She will progress to Level Two next year having exceeded the pass mark.
