India Clyburn has continued her fantastic run of form with a four-under par total and a five-shot win in the Royal Birkdale Scratch Trophy.

The 17-year-old England international from Woodhall Spa Golf Club set up her success in the prestigious scratch event with a four-under par 71 in the first round, followed by level par in the second.

“It’s a great thing to win,” said India. “Royal Birkdale is so prestigious and it’s great to have my name on the board.”

“I had a nice four under in the morning, in the wind and rain! I was drenched.

“The afternoon was a bit up and down, I shot level but I had a double and triple, both times because I was stuck in a bunker.

“But I managed to get back with a few birdies and the whole day was good.”

Her closest challenger was Emma Goddard (Royal Liverpool), who was one over par. She was followed by Hollie Vizard (Pleasington) and Emily Coleman (Trentham) who were both four-over.

It is the latest in a line of successes for India which began in July when she won the Scottish junior stroke play on 15-under par, with a winning margin of 12 shots.

She followed up last month with a two-stroke win in the English girls’ championship and went on to become England’s top scorer in the Girls’ Home Internationals.

She had a perfect record of six wins out of six and helped the team to their seventh successive win in the tournament.

Now, she’s got two more big dates this month, having been selected for the England team for the Ladies’ Home Internationals, from September 17-19, and to represent England in the World Girls’ Championship in Canada from September 26.

“I’m really looking forward to it all,” she said.
