Woodhall Spa Golf Club’s teenage starlet Bille-Jo Smith had been included in an eight-strong mixed team of talented youngsters who will represent England Golf in an under-16 international in Spain.
Billie-Jo (14) will line against their age group rivals from Spain at the Spanish National Golf Centre in Madrid on May 24 and 25.
The call-up highlights Billie-Jo’s status as one of the country’s top young prospects.
She recently represented England in this season’s Scottish U16 championship, where she tied fifth.
She was 10th in the English U15 championship last year and tied 11th in the St Andrews junior ladies’ open.
She also trains with the England Golf U16 East Midlands squad.
The clash against Spain replaces a similar match which is usually scheduled as a curtain-raiser to the North of England under 16 Championship.
It will give most of the four boys and four girls their first taste of international action outside of Britain.
The three others girls selected at Mollie Lawrence, 16, from Rochester & Cobham Park, Kent, Martha Lewis, 14, (St George’s Hill, Surrey) and Natasha Slater, 14, (Furness, Cumbria).
The four boys are Toby Briggs, 14, (Dunston Hall, Norfolk), Oliver Clarke, 15, (Formby, Lancashire), Nathan Longley, 15, (Worthing, Sussex), Arrun Singh-Brar, 15, (Foxhills, Surrey).
