County hopefuls showcase skills at Horncastle IBC

Horncastle Indoor Bowls Club hosted the Lincolnshire Women’s Indoor Bowling Association’s last 16 and quarter-finals of the county singles on Sunday.

Ladies from over all over the county were welcomed to the club by Horncastle IBC President Judy Moody and Lesley Holmes, the county competition organiser.

Representatives from Horncastle, Boston, Spalding, Lincoln, Scunthorpe, Sleaford, Skegness, Grantham and Long Sutton came together to compete for a place in the semi-finals, which will be held later this month.

There were some very close matches, including Horncastle’s own Mary Johnson who, after three-and-a-quarter hours of action, lost 21-19 to semi-finalist L. Mountain.

Those going through to the semi-finals and finals are Ruby Hill (Spalding), Pat Thompson (Grantham), Lyn Mountain (Lincoln) and Sue Hoyles (Boston).

Horncastle IBC’s Paul Bark has qualified through to the semi-finals of the Lincolnshire Indoor Bowling Association sets singles after a quarter-final win over Lincoln’s Billy Jackson 2-1, easing through on the tie-break.

In the second round Paul defeated Ron Flower 2-0.

Horncastle’s Tracy Nunn lost to Lincoln’s Billy Jackson 2-0.

On Sunday Horncastle IBC will host its annual Bowls Gala Day and Craft Fair.

The event will raise money for Cancer Research.

Doors open at 10am and the gala and fair will run until 5pm.
