Horncastle Otters Swimming Club have collected a donation of £500.

Last Thursday, to a background of somewhat damp fireworks exploding outside, members of Olive Union Lodge were at the Horncastle Masonic Hall when Worshipful Master Robin Eke presented a cheque to Jane Morley and John Fearon of the Otters.

The cash will be put towards the club’s focus of helping the young gain confidence in the pool.

The Olive Union Lodge is one of 74 lodges within Lincolnshire able to apply to the Lincolnshire Masonic Benevolent Fund each year for monies to help a local non-Masonic charity or good cause.

This year, £70,000 was available to Lincolnshire Lodges and the members of Olive Union Lodge applied for, and were granted, £500 for donation to Otters Swimming Club.

They thanked Jane and John for the time that they and other Otters instructors give freely to teach and hoped that the donation would help Otters in their continued efforts to encourage local children to swim safely.

Jane thanked the Worshipful Master and members of the Lodge and assured them that the money would help towards the cost of qualifying new instructors and purchasing bright new teaching aids which are needed.
