An athletic father and son from Wragby performed well at the Lincolnshire County Athletics Championships at Grantham last Sunday.
Kieran Gillespie won the javelin with a personal best 26.67m, and also finished second in the 400m hurdles (72.2sec) and discus (22.76m). He recorded personal bests in all three events.
His father, multiple Irish record holder Jim, finished as runner-up in the shot putt with a PB 9.03m and was third in the discus (25.68m).
Jim said: “I’m really pleased with Kieran’s performances; you can’t argue with three personal bests from three events.
“As for my efforts, I’m really encouraged with the way it went, bearing in mind I haven’t done any
throwing since tearing my calf eight weeks ago. I was always going to be a bit rusty, so to throw a PB in the shot was tremendously pleasing.”
