Lewis hits five as ladies secure first win
GEMMA Lewis kick-started Horncastle Ladies Hockey season with an impressive five goals as the first team brushed Grantham aside in a 9-1 win.
They couldn’t have hoped for a better start as they secured the win in spectacular fashion taking a 7-0 lead into the second half.
Lewis, Horncastle’s top scorer last year, picked up from where she left off as she aims to beat her tally of 26 goals from last season. The weather was not ideal for either side as the high temperature made running hard work, but both teams battled on.
After securing such a strong lead in the first 35 minutes, the home side stepped of the pace to allow some breathing room.
Horncastle added a further two goals in the second half as Grantham nicked a consolation.
Serena Garcia scored a brace, and Georgia Bullen and Jasmine Roberts rounded off the scoring.
The ladies sit at the top of the Women’s Lincolnshire Hockey League on goal difference and travel to face Long Sutton 2 this weekend.
Team: Slater, Tokelove, Wilkinson, Cullen, Lewis (c), Roberts, Rees, Wood, Redwood, Garcia, Bullen, Skayman.
