Horncastle Ladies 2’s fight back for well deserved draw.
Horncastle II’s 4–4 Louth III’s
HORNCASTLE II’s took to the pitch eagerly this weekend ready to get back into the new season.
Horncastle took the first push back and immediately broke forward, but Louth were on their toes and pushed Horncastle’s attack back.
Louth then intercepted the ball and led a number of attacks on goal, which keeper Laura Neame and her defence kept strong and kept Louth from scoring.
After a Horncastle hit out, the ball reached Carly Neame, who took possession into the oppositions ‘D’ and took a strike toward goal, which hit a defenders foot resulting in Horncastle receiving a short corner.
Neame injected it to Nick Rees who struck the ball, but her shot was unsuccessful. Louth fought back on the attack and received some short corners, but were denied by some quick defending and strong saves from L.Neame.
Horncastle led numerous attacks on goal, one which led to a second short corner, which after injection, N.Rees passed along the top of the ‘D’ to Charlotte Costello who took a strong strike on goal which was deflected. Neame got onto the deflection quickly and took a short range strike which got caught up with defenders and the keeper.
This resulted in Horncastle receiving a penalty flick. Neame stood forward to take the flick, unfortunately Neame’s first strike went straight to the keeper’s pads, but luckily this was disallowed as Louth’s keeper left her line too early.#
Neame confidently took a second flick which slotted into the right corner past the keeper’s reach taking Horncastle 1-0 up.
Louth fought back and led strong attacks and equalised with Horncastle. Louth then went 1-2 up when a shot went past keeper L.Neame when her vision was obstructed. The scored remained 1-2 at the half time break.
After a chance to get plenty of water on a very hot day the ladies took the field once more, unfortunately Horncastle struggled with the heat and Louth took their opportunities well and put another two goals in the back of the net.
With ten minutes of the second half to go Horncastle found the strength to pick the pace back up and work superbly as a team.
The defence took some great hit out into the midfield, who received it well and drove forward with excellent passing from Grace Hillsmith and Costello,
Midfield passed it onto the attack at the top of the ‘D’ and Neame passed the ball to Ruby Frankish, who was waiting on the left post to slot it past the keeper.
This resulted in a huge morale boost for Horncastle. They fought hard to gain possession once again and N.Rees Drove forward and passed the ball at the top of the‘D’ for Neame, who was waiting alongside and confidently swept it past the keeper, taking the score to 3–4.
With Horncastle buzzing and two minutes left Horncastle broke through the Louth defence for the final time and Hillsmith passed it to the top of the ‘D,’ who passed to Frankish who was again waiting on the left post, who for the second time comfortably slotted it past the keeper to take the score level with Louth at 4–4.
Horncastle then defended well for the final seconds of the game to finish on a tie.
