Kimsey ready to step up challenge
Woodhall Spa amateur Nathan Kimsey is leading the English challenge for one of golf’s top titles.
Kimsey goes into the final two rounds of the Lake Macquarie Championship in Australia in third place.
He fired rounds off 67 and 69 for an eight-under-par total of 135 and will be looking to step up his bid over the final 36 holes this weekend.
Kimsey trails joint leaders Josh Munn and Brett Drewitt by just one shot and is three ahead of Cameron Smith, one of the pre-tournament favourites.
The event - which has attracted many of the world’s top players - is being staged at the Belmont Golf Club near Sydney.
Kimsey’s opening 67 included eight birdies and was an exceptional effort in 30mph winds which wrecked many cards.
His second round 69 was equally as impressive and he will be hoping to maintain that form - and pick up more vital world ranking points.
Kimsey is in Australia as part of the England elite squad. nHe’s currently ranked in the world’s top 50.
He’s already performed well in the Australian Amateur Masters and reached the final stages of the Australian Amateur Championship at Royal Melbourne last weekend.
