Clyburn misses out on Championship chance
HOLLY Clyburn missed out on what could prove to be her last attempt to win the historic British Amateur Ladies Golf Championship.
Clyburn went into the event at Carnoustie as one of the favourites, particularly after her impressive form in the Curtis Cup.
The Woodhall Spa golfer duly powered through the two rounds of pre-qualifying, which was played under a strokeplay format.
She returned scores of 75 and 73 to finish in seventh place, well ahead of most of her major rivals.
The event switched to matchplay and Clyburn was surprisingly beaten 4&3 in the first round by Austria’s Nina Muehl.
Spain’s Rocio Sanchez Lobato won the title after a 4&3 victory over Ireland’s Stephanie Meadow in the final.
Clyburn is expected to fly to America later this month for a series of competitions and has previously suggested she will turn professional at the end of the season.
n Woodhall Spa’s Richard Latham finished runner-up in the recent Lincs Amateur Championships at Lincoln GC.
Latham, who won the county Mid-Amateur title earlier in the year at Louth, carded a 36 hole total of 139 after rounds of 73 and 66.
That left him seven shots behind winner James Burnett from Sleaford (73,66). Other Woodhall members in action included Darren Gould (147), Les Toyne (150) and George Shutt (152).
