SCHOOLS FOOTBALL: Horncastle Primary lift five a side silverware

Horncastle Community Primary School triumphed in the JB Sport Coaching Five a Side Football Tournament hosted by St Hugh's School, Woodhall Spa, last Saturday.

Eighteen teams entered the tournament – two from Horncastle Community Primary, Alford (2), Holy Trinity, Donington on Bain, Gipsey Bridge (2), Kirkby on Bain (2),Withern, Sibsey, Scamblesby, St Hugh’s, Tetford, Bucknall and Halton Holegate.

The format was eight minutes per game, five a side, with roll on roll off substitutes.

Horncastle A team played five group stage matches and won them all – Alford A 1-0, Holy Trinity 1-0, Gipsey Bridge B 5-0, Holy Trinity 1-0, Donington on Bain 4-0.

As winners of the group, Horncastle A went on to contest the quarter-finals in which they defeated Tetford 1-0.

In a close game, the semi-final against Gipsey Bridge went to penalties, with Horncastle emerging victorious.

The final saw them come up against St Hugh’s who had not conceded a goal all tournament, until Horncastle A snatched the winner in the last seconds of extra time to claim the title.

All the players were fantastic and deserved to win the tournament, which was well organised by JB Sports Coaching’s Steve Brown, Ollie Johnson and staff.
