Horncastle Town U16 3

Market Rasen U16 1

Horncastle notched up their first win of the season, in a feisty match against Market Rasen.

The first half was an evenly fought affair, with Market Rasen having the most opportunities.

However, despite limited shots on goal, it was Horncastle that edged into the lead half way through the first half. After being played on by Wythe, Johnson controlled the ball in the air, to powerfully strike the ball into the net.

Horncastle made it two early in the second half after Bruntlett tucked the ball in from a tight angle.

The celebrations were short lived as Market Rasen immediately pulled a goal back.

Horncastle added another goal to their tally, when
the Rasen defender and keeper made a defensive
error, leaving Bruntlett an open goal to make the score 3-1.

Tempers flared
when Rasen had a player
sent off, after a double yellow card.

Following a 10 minute break in play to treat an injured player, Rasen continued to threaten with a succession of corners –
but Horncastle remained strong to hold out for
their first win of the
season.
