There was to be no giant-killing in the Willoughby Cup Final as Woodhall Spa were soundly beaten 3-2 by Premier Division Champions Wyberton.

Spa, who play in Division One, were put under pressure from the opening whistle as goalkeeper Andy Money was called into action as he saved a shot from Curtis Yeatman.

Wyberton broke the deadlock on 26 minutes as Ben Jaques swept the ball home to take a 1-0 lead.

Three minutes later Christian Wainwright came to Spa’s rescue as he made a saving tackle on man-of-the-match Yeatman.

Money made a quick double save from a Wyberton free kick and his efforts were rewarded shortly after half time as Spa equalised.

Captain Jason Cooke converted a low cross from Callum Cheetham but Wyberton found themselves ahead again on 67 minutes as Curtis Revell clipped the ball over Money.

Wyberton made it 3-1 12 minutes from time as Yeatman found space to tuck the ball home despite the close attention of Woodhall Spa’s defence.

Unfortunately for Spa, their attempted comeback came too late as Chris Holland powered in a header from a corner to make it 3-2.

As soon as play restarted referee Nick Sleaford blew the final whistle.
