Saxilby Athletic U16 3 Horncastle Town U16 3
Two goals from striker Ben Wythe capped a brave fightback by Horncastle Town at Saxilby.
It was very much a ‘game of two halves’ with Saxilby dominating proceedings during the first half and Town the second.
Saxilby opened the scoring after 12 minutes and went on to convert two further chances during to establish a 3-0 lead after 35 minutes.
Town had struggled to get into the game and were certainly relieved to hear the half time whistle after creating few chances.
However, it did not take long for Town to get back into the match after the restart.
After 46 minutes, Nixon drove down the right hand wing beating a number of players before crossing to Wythe who found the corner of the goal.
Tempers began to flare and the referee had to resort to a number of bookings and ultimately sent off one of Town’s players.
However, Town continued to push forward and were rewarded with a second goal after a Wilson shot was deflected into the net.
At the other end, Town keeper Carlton was called into action a couple of times, pulling off one particularly good save when one-on-one with the advancing Saxilby forward.
Time was running down but with approximately ten minutes left, Nixon again pushed down the right hand side and crossed the ball into the box. Johnson’s shot was blocked and the ball fell to Wythe who calmly found the net to bring the scores level.
Both teams searched for the winner during the final few minutes but it ended all square and Town were more than happy with the point.
