Heavy snow followed by a quick thaw on Saturday morning saw Horrncastle Town’s top of the table clash against Skegness Town called off.

A pitch inspection at lunchtime on Saturday deemed The Wong was waterlogged and was not fit to be played upon.

Other parts of the pitch still had snow laying on them stopping the ball from rolling.

Town remain in third spot in the league two points behind Wyberton, who missed the chance to go
top at the weekend as they
lost 1-0 to Sleaford Town Reserves.

Skegness remain top three points ahead of Town, but The Wongers have a game in hand on the leaders and a whopping five games in
hand over Wyberton, who should slip away as fixtures catch up.

The only other team who look poised to play a part in the title race are fourth placed Hykeham Town, who sealed a narrow 3-2 win over Ruston Sports on Saturday.

They now sit a point behind town with a game in hand and four points off the top spot with two games in hand over Skegness.

And Ruston Sports will have a key role to play in Town’s title prospects this coming Saturday, February 7, as they will be the visitors to The Wong, kick off 3pm.

Town will be in confident mood having won all of their last five games compared to their opposition’s three defeats in five.

Meanwhile Town will have to wait to see when their match against Skegness will be rearranged for.

Horncastle Town’s Development Squad will also be in action at home on Sunday, February 8, when they welcome William Foster FC Reserves to The Wong for a 10.45am kick off.
