FOOTBALL: Strong Horncastle performance too much for Greenbank

Horncastle Town U16s 3-1 Greenbank

Town U16s started brightly and were unlucky when they hit the crossbar after just five minutes.

They didn’t have to wait long to get the breakthrough however when Elliot Beamer knocked home from close in after some good football.

Despite further chances and some decent football at times, the score line remained 1-0 at half-time.

After the break Greenbank tried to find a way back in, but found themselves up against a resilient Horncastle back four of Marshall, Hughes, Wilkinson, Nesbitt and ‘keeper Ben Fidling, who once again did a great job as stand-in keeper.

Town increased their lead when Henry Lyddiatt followed up a goal mouth scramble to force the ball home.

Greenbank pulled a goal back after a long range free kick was followed up by the visiting centre forward.

Once more Horncastle upped their game and when Beamer was fouled in the area, Sam Johnson stepped up to score from the penalty spot and secure the points for Town.

The impressive Jim Waters hit the bar late on after some good link up play from George Swift, Elliot Miles and Sam Johnson.

Team: Ben Fidling, Joe Wilkinson, Mac Marshall, Ross Nesbitt, Joel Hughes, George Swift, Henry Lyddiatt, Elliott Miles, Sam Johnson, Elliott Beamer, Jim Waters.
