Horncastle Town’s hopes of silverware this season took another blow on over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

First, on Saturday, Town went out of the Supllementary Cup after losing 1-0 at home to Ruston Sports in the semi finals.

The Supplementary Cup Final at the end of the month will be an all-Lincoln affair after Hykeham Town and won at Skegness Town.

Ruston Sports win was secured by Lee Pickering’s first goal of the season at The Wong.

Town were then hoping to continue their push for the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League title on Easter Monday.

Sitting top of the table and playing one from bottom CGB Humbertherm Town were looking good at picking up all three point to consolidate their top of the table position.

But on the morning on the match CGB Hembertherm called to say they could not raise a team.

This gave second placed Skegness Town the chance to go top and they took full advantage of the opportunity, returning home from Cleethorpes AKP with three points to end the bank holiday weekend at the summit of the table.

What’s an even bigger concern is that the door is now wide open for third placed Hykeham Town to pick up three points at home to Nettleham on Wednesday night.

This would put them two points clear of Town with a game in hand.

Horncastle’s focus must now be taking three points from Skegness Town when they entertain the seasiders at The Wong on Saturday afternoon, April 12.

Town then face a crunch match away at Hykeham Town on Wednesday April 15, in what could still end up to be a title decider.

Before that Hykeham face Town’s Wolds rivals Market Rasen at Rase Park and will be hoping for their fellow market town men to do them a favour by taking points off of the Lincoln side.
