Horncastle Town U12s 6-0 Birchwood Colts

Town U12s, sponsored by Mayfield Manufacturing and Bullring Barbers, served up six of the best to overcome Birchwood Colts and progress to the next round of the Mark Keyworth Cup.

It wasn’t quite as convincing as the scoreline suggests, but Town deserved to reach the next round.

A hat trick from Liam Cotton, goals from Isaac Bontoft and debutante Spencer Burgess and a stunning Kasey Pearce strike saw Town run out winners.

Town took the lead when Bontoft and Pearce combined to set Liam Cotton through
on goal and he finished
calmly.

Excellent saves stopped Town pulling further ahead while ‘keeper William Chamblerain kept Birchwood out when they pressed.

Just before half time, Town had one more chance as a beautiful pass from Oli Rennie was seized upon by Pearce, but his shot flew narrowly wide.

The second half continued in the same vein as Town pressed hard for more goals.

Two new players were introduced for their debuts and both impressed, showing some very neat touches, a willingness to work hard and create chances.

Twin brothers Spencer and Oliver Burgess will certainly prove to be an asset to both this team and the club as a whole into the future.

It was Spencer Burgess who scored Town’s second goal as he picked up on a wonderfully lofted pass from Sam Hull 25-yards out and finished well.

Cotton bagged his second of the game after combining with Lunn and then Pearce registered a brilliant individual effort.

Bontoft grabbed a goal his all round play deserved and the sixth and final goal came as Cotton completed his hat trick.

n Town kick off what is sure to be a tough A-league campaign next Sunday at home to a strong Retford outfit (2.15)
