North Lindum Hawks 0
Horncastle Town 0
Horncastle Town earned an excellent point on their travels on another blustery match day.
The young Wongers travelled to Lincoln determined to put in a better performance than the home fixture last week against the Hawks, when they were defeated 5-0.
Lindum welcomed the return of two players for this match and lined up much stronger than the corresponding fixture six days previously. If anything, this seemed to stiffen the resolve of Horncastle who had the better of the first half with the wind in their favour.
The game was played in the home team’s half in the opening period but Town couldn’t force the goal that their build-up play deserved. Connah Toulson had the best opportunity when he shot just wide from a tight angle.
Although Lindum came into the match in the second period, they didn’t have the level of dominance that Horncastle had enjoyed in the first 30 minutes. Chances for both sides continued to be limited with possibly Horncastle’s best opportunity falling to James McKeag whose goalbound effort was unfortunately blocked by a Hawk defender.
The match finished goalless, which again proved that when the under-12s are focused on the challenge in hand, they are a match for any team in the league.
Man of the match was jointly awarded to Lewis Howden and Aaron Smith, who along with Daniel Cobban, had excellent games at the back, marshalling a strong forward line effectively throughout the 60 minutes.
