Horncastle Town FC stormed into the semi finals of the Lincolnshire Supplementary Cup with a 4-1 home win over Nettleham this afternoon (Saturday).
Despite having only played three games in 2014, The Wongers went into the game full of confidence, manager Paul Johnson able to choose from a full strength squad.
It was a bad start for the home side, going behind after 20 minutes following a cruel deflected shot, which found its way into the net.
Horncastle were not behind for long though, just two minutes in fact. Smith’s corner found the head of Brown, who found the underside of the cross bar and in.
With 40 minutes gone and Town pushing on, Edwards pulled the ball back for Smith to hit a left footed shot past the stricken ‘keeper.
It remained that way up until the 75-minute mark when a sublime 45-year cross-field pass from Lowman found Smith, who this time lobbed the ‘keeper for his second and Horncastle’s third.
Two minutes later Town put the game beyond doubt. Edwards beat the Nettleham ‘keeper to the ball and was then taken down in the area. The referee had no doubt in pointing to the spot and Smith sealed his hat-trick and the game.
It finished Horncastle 4, Nettleham 1.
