Horncastle Town Development XI 2-2 Witham

In a repeat of last week, town gave themselves a mountain to climb by conceding two first half goals against Witham.

Town knew exactly what to expect from Witham, who are a very direct, physical side, but a direct ball played over town’s defence and a headed flick on led to Witham’s first goal.

Town had the lions share of the possession in the first half, central midfielders Callum Low and Andrew Bullivant made several decent passes in behind the Witham defence that led to decent chances for strikers George Swift and Luke Blondell.

A mix up in the town defence led to an easy tap in for the Witham striker.

The second half was all Town, playing all the football and creating many chances. Finally the break they deserved came, a fine ball into the box by Callum Low led to a great volley from Luke Blondell to make it 2-1.

Further town possession and good midfield play from Nadir Boulaid and Will Burton led to a fine ball being headed on by George Swift to his strike partner Luke Blondell, who calmly slotted the ball past the Witham ‘keeper.

With the score at 2-2 town brought on substitutes Henry Lyddiatt and Nathan Wright, overall every player performed in the second half but chance after chance went begging.

The game ended 2-2 but town should have taken all three points, Assistant manager Alan Wilkinson once again praised the young team for showing great team spirit with a fantastic second half performance, “the results will follow, its only a matter of time”
