New ‘keeper Jason Stamford was the toast of Horncastle Town Reserves as they lifted the Heat Support Challenge Cup after a thrilling penalty shoot-out win against Lincs Fire and Rescue at the Wong on Saturday.

Stamford pulled out all the stops to deny Fire and Rescue in a thrilling shoot-out and help the reserves claim their first silverware of the season.

Summer signing Nadir Boulaid scored for Town in the first half but Fire and Rescue levelled in the second.

Town went onto win 4-3 on penalties with Stamford pulling off making some excellent saves.

The reserve’s kick off their league season on Saturday as they face a tough trip to Gainsborough to play reigning Lincoln League Champions, The Blues Club.

The Blues Club started their own campaign last Saturday with an 8-0 victory.

Meanwhile, Town’s new Sunday Development squad were unlucky not to come away with a win in their first game together.

They drew 1-1 last week in a friendly against local rivals Scamblesby at The Wong.

Town took the lead in the second half through a well worked goal scored by Ben Fidling, but Scamblesby hit back with five minutes left to level.

The Development team’s next warm-up game is tonight (Wednesday) when they take on AFC Harpars at The Wong (7pm).

*Town U9s launched their new season with a cracking 4-3 win at league rivals HBW Bees last Sunday.

Thje U11s were also in action recently, going down 4-2 at Welton Bombers in a friendly.
