AFC Harpars 1 FVA Jerusalem 2
AFC Harpars’ title hopes in Division Three of the Lincoln Sunday League took a turn for the worse when they lost to FVA Jerusalem Reserves by the odd goal in three.
Harpars controlled play for large parts of the game but, unlike their opponents, failed to take their chances and paid the price.
The visitors went in at the half way stage with a 1-0 lead and despite dictating the play for the majority of the second half, Harpars found themselves 2-0 down with just 20 minutes to play.
After coming close several times, including efforts from Jack Baxter and Michael Harness hitting the woodwork, the hosts finally found the back of the net with 10 minutes remaining.
A left footed strike from the edge of the area by substitute James White did the trick and at least gave Harpars hope.
They piled on the pressure in the closing stages but were unable to register another goal, which would have given them a share of the spoils.
Harpars will now be hoping Trent Valley slip up if they are to go onto win the league,
First, though, they have to keep the pressure on their rivals as they play FC Vodafone at home in their next game at Horncastle Playing Fields (ko: 10.45).
