Woodhall Spa United shrugged off their indifferent league form to register a confidence boosting win in the first round of the Boston and District League’s Willoughby Cup on Saturday.
A solitary goal saw Woodhall throw the form-book out of the window as they secured a 1-0 win at Premier Division rivals Fishtoft.
The hosts, currently third in the table, had been backed to go through against next-to-bottom Woodhall.
Fellow Premier Division strugglers Mareham were also involved in the Willoughby Cup but crashed to a 7-0 defeat at home to First Division Freiston.
However, Coningsby did battle through to the second round with an impressive 4-1 win at Old Doningtonians.
It completed an impressive ‘double’ for Coningsby who had won 2-0 at Old Doningtonians in the league a week earlier.
