Coningsby United Reserves booked their place in the Willoughby Shield semi finals after a superb 3-0 win over Billinghay Athletic Reserves.

Despite the Billinghay side plying their trade the division above the Coningsby team a Danny Cottingham penalty just before half time gave the home side the lead.

The referee kept control of what threatened to be a heated affair and both sides were creating chances and threatened to score before Cottingham’s opener but for some superb goalkeeping from both teams.

Cottingham doubled his tally to put the home side 2-0 up shortly after half time from a corner and Coningsby had the bit between their teeth as Athletic threw everything they could at Gerrard Curry tapped home a cross five minutes from time securing the home side’s place in the next round of the Shield.

They face another tough test in the semi final as they will take on Freiston Reserves who are currently second in the Boston Taylors Service Garages Division One.
