Coningsby FC 4-1 Fosdyke
An injury hit Coningsby team were still too strong for an outclassed Fosdyke on Saturday.
It was a crisp, bright midwinter’s afternoon at the Allan Barker Field for the rescheduled Boston League Division One match.
Fingers were crossed when the Reds ran out as two of the team’s regular defenders were absent with injuries, but the visitors had their own problems too.
First blood went to Coningsby after a quarter of an hour when Jamie Todd launched a solo attack by chipping over the Fosdyke defenders and following through to slide the ball under the goalie.
The score was doubled on the half hour mark when Sean Taylor was brought down in the visitors’ box and put the resultant penalty away with consummate ease with a third goal coming just three minutes later when the ball was slotted neatly into the corner for his first goal of the season by Danny Whitworth.
The visitors rallied after the break but none of their efforts resulted in success and then, as the light started to fade, Carl Wilson returned a short clearance by the Fosdyke ‘keeper straight into the goal for the Reds’ number four.
However, since it was the season of goodwill, with only minutes left to play Fosdyke were gifted with an own goal by Martin Maddison.
