Woodhall Spa men narrowly miss out on promotion
Woodhall Spa Tennis Club's men's team
WOODHALL Spa Tennis Club’s men’s team took on Sleaford in their final match at the weekend.
With both teams unbeaten in all their previous games throughout the season, this match was a straight fight for the third division title with the final score ending up eight rubbers to one in Sleaford’s favour.
Playing for Woodhall were Dan Freeman and Louis McQuade who won one rubber, Alex Coupland and Barrie Craigs, and David Little and Ant Hawkins.
Despite the resounding scoreline Woodhall Spa played well, losing two rubbers on champions tie-breaks and ending the season as runners-up, whilst the very strong Sleaford side win promotion to Division 2.
Overall this has been a very encouraging first season for the Woodhall Spa Men’s team after several years absence from the league.
Next weekend sees the Ladies 2nd team playing their final match of summer 2012 and they too are still in the promotion hunt.
The Ladies 1st team completed their matches last weekend and ended the season as unbeaten champions of Division 2 to join Division 1 next year.
