Woodhall Spa look to build on mid-table postion

Lincs ECB Premier League.

Hartsholme CC 227–9 ( B.O’Brien 5-48; C. Wright 2-39)

Woodhall Spa CC 194–9 (R. Lovelace 47; D. Hegarty 34; J.Luffman 31; D.Milgate 21; S. Evison 15)

Woodhall Spa CC Losing Draw (10 Points)

A losing draw versus Hartsholme CC at Ashby Avenue brought Woodhall Spa’s season to a close and the 10 points earned resulted in the team finishing in sixth place, exactly mid–table.

The game also reflected Spa’s strengths and weaknesses, some excellent bowling littered with too many four balls, important catches being dropped and batsmen getting good starts and then losing their wickets by means of a poor choice or execution of a shot.

However, on the whole the club must be pleased with the final outcome and a foundation has been laid upon which to build in 2013 and maybe a final position in the top four.

The game itself was played in a very low key manner, a typical end of season affair, as both teams had nothing really to play for. Hartsholme batted first and posted a score of 227-9 on the board, which from Woodhall’s point of view was quite pleasing as at one time, with the score on 185-2, a much bigger challenge was going to face their batsmen.

Good bowling, once again, from Ben O’Brien, who returned figures of 5-48, was the main reason for the home side’s collapse towards the end of their innings and he was well supported by fellow seamer Charles Wright, who deservedly claimed two wickets.

Woodhall Spa’s innings began in an encouraging manner as 32 runs were scored from the opening five overs, but once the first wicket fell the bat never really regained it’s dominance over the ball and in the end the away side had to settle for a losing draw.
