Makeshift Horncastle side lose away match

HORNCASTLE Cricketers had to dig deep in the club resources to put eleven players out on the field in their away fixture at Appleby Frodingham on Saturday as holidays and work commitments saw the side depleted.

Batting first the regular opening pair of Roberts and Paige settled into their stride and started to accumulate some runs.

Unfortunately when this partnership was broken with the score on 43, only Loveley, 41, was able to build a decent innings.

When Paige was caught for 92 it saw the end of the visitors defence and the team finished on 182 off their 45 overs.

In reply the home team passed the total in 35 overs, to win by seven wickets.

The Sunday team returned to action at the weekend with an away trip to Fulbeck. The young second team put up a valiant effort put were beaten by 161 runs.

Both teams at home this weekend and will be looking for improved performance this weekend. The Saturday team once again face Appleby Frodingham, while the Sunday play local rivals Revesby.

This afternoon, Wednesday August 15, the Horncastle Junior end of season presentations take place down at Coronation Walk.

The evening starts at 4.30pm with a friendly mixed game. This will be followed by prize presentations and barbeque, all junior players, parents and supporters are invited to come along.
