HORNCASTLE Cricket Club picked up back-to-back league wins after an outstanding team performance saw them crush Louth 2nds by eight wickets on Saturday.

Louth batted first but had no answer to the inspired bowling of Lewis Lovegrove and Rory Hannam who ripped through the innings.

Lovegrove snapped off 4-9 from five overs and Hannam chipped in with 3-25 from six as Louth were whipped out for 105.

There was an early scare for Horncastle when opener Rick Hickling fell for a duck.

But the experienced pair of skipper Nick Paige and Mick Devereux soon dashed any hopes Louth had of defending their total.

Devereux eventually fell for 33 but Paige stayed on and was 68 not out when Horncastle posted the winning runs.

The Sunday team also picked up maximum points when they returned from Washingborough with a four wicket victory.

Fielding their most experienced side of the season, Horncastle were always in control after Washingborough were dismissed for 96. Young county bowler Ben Clarke was the pick of the attack with three wickets.

Horncastle didn’t have things all their own way on a tricky batting track but battled through for the loss of six wickets.

A Horncastle youth side lost by 76 runs to Frecheville, a touring Sheffield team.

The visitors posted a challenging score of 186 from 40 overs and despite fine efforts from Keiran Wilson (45) and wicketkeeper Jim Watters (33), Horncastle were bowled out for 110.

The U11s, meanwhile, were soundly beaten by a strong Woodhall Spa line up in the County Cup.

Forthcoming fixtures: Thursday, June 14 - U13s home to Boston; Saturday, June 16 - second team home to Boston; Monday, June 18 - U11s at Grimoldby; Tuesday, June 19 - U13s at Skegness; Wednesday, June 20 - U11s at Sutton-on-Sea.
