Woodhall Spa captain Jack Luffman admits his side would relish a victory at Lincolnshire ECB Premier League clash at Market Deeping tomorrow (Saturday).
Almost 12 months ago, it was a surprise defeat at Market Deeping which cost Woodhall the title on the very last day of the campaign.
And earlier this season, a defeat at home to the same opponents cost Woodhall vital points in the race for the top of the table.
Luffman said: “We’re certainly due a good result against them and it would be nice to go to their place and win but it’s going to difficult.
“They’ve done well this season and are in and about the top six so we will have to be at our best.”
Woodhall’s impressive form has seen them climb into third place in the table behind leaders Bourne and Bracebridge Heath.
They could still challenge for the title but would need both their rivals to suffer something of a dramatic loss of form.
Luffman added; “All we can do is keep winning our games and what happens then is out of our hands.
“We’re pleased with the way we’re performing and we’ve got to try and keep that going.”
All eyes will be on Woodhall’s overseas’ star Malinga Bandara who will be looking for a hat trick of centuries tomorrow.
The Sri Lankan has also been among the wickets with his leg spin bowling, taking some of the pressure off the likes of Ben O’Brien.
It is another big weekend for Woodhall because on Sunday they will represent the league in the Area Finals of the ECB’s Twenty20 Cup.
The event - at Elsecar CC near Barnsley - was washed out last Sunday...just ten minutes after the coach carrying Woodhall’s players and supporters had left Jubilee Park!
