CRICKET: Tough Scunthorpe test for struggling Horncastle

Horncastle Cricket Club face another tough test tomorrow (Saturday) when they host Scunthorpe seconds in Division One of the Lincolnshire County League at Coronation Walk.

The match coincides with the town’s beer festival which is being held in the clubhouse at the ground and skipper Nick Paige could certainly be happy to drink to a much-needed success.

Last Saturday’s defeat against Scothern left Horncastle in the bottom two of the table after what has proved to be a difficult season.

Horncastle have won just one of their 14 games while mid-table Scunthorpe arrive with a record of four wins from 15 games.

Once again, Horncastle are likely to field a largely young side and Paige badly needs his batsmen to find their form.

*Horncastle will also have home advantage on Sunday when they entertain Bracebridge Heath 2nds in Division Three of the Chattertons McKinnells League.

a win would consolidate Horncastle’s place in the top four of the table.
