Former England Test star Graeme Swann, who dramatically quit cricket during the recent Ashes series, could return to action - in Woodhall Spa.
The spin ace is one of a number of big names being lined up to play for the Lashings All Stars against Woodhall Spa’s first team at Jubilee Park on Tuesday, July 29.
Swann could be joined by the likes of Matthew Hoggard, Saqlain Mushtaq, Darren Maddy, Dirk Nannes, Courtney Walsh, Lou Vincent and Wasim Jaffer.
They are all set to don the famous yellow and black strip of the Lashings giants in a 35-over-a-side contest sponsored by Horncastle based Crowders Nurseries.
Lashings - a side comprised of ex-Test and County Championship stars - play a series of exhibition matches around the country, raising thousands of pounds in the process.
It will be the fourth time they have visited Woodhall Spa. In the last fixture - in 2012 - centuries from Indian batsman Jaffer and England’s Chris Schofield entertained a sizeable crowd.
The clash featured commentary from the voice of ‘Test Match Special’ Henry Blofeld, who will also be returning this year.
Preparations for the day are already underway and Chairman of the Club’s Lashings committee John Luffman is hoping for another memorable occasion.
He said: “Last time the All Stars visited, it was a fabulous affair for not just the club but the area as a whole and we are hoping for much of the same this summer.
“Our relationship with Lashings is outstanding and they will once again bring a strong side of well celebrated internationals.
“All in all, it promises to be another memorable day and I would urge any cricket or sports fan to book into their diaries too.”
The presence of player of the calibre of Swann, Hoggard and Walsh would be a major attraction. Other big names could be added.
