CRICKET: Horncastle marks successful season and looks to future

Horncastle Cricket Club celebrated another successful season on and off the field with a dinner and presentation evening at the Bull Hotel.

Club Captain, Nick Paige, thanked players, supporters, the all important tea ladies and club sponsors for their contributions throughout the season with a special presentation being made to groundsman Julian Lovely for all his hard work.

President Michael Paige echoed Nick’s comments, thanking the hard-working committee and particularly those who had helped manage the Astro Bar in the club’s first year in control, before presenting the club awards.

Saturday team award winners were:- Batting and Players’ player, Nick Paige; Bowling Rory Hannam.

Sunday team award winners were:- Batting and Players’ player, Phil Roberts; Bowling Lewis Lovegrove.

Club Awards were also presented to:- Rory Hannam (Fielding award), Phil Roberts (Individual Performance of the Season and Supporters’ Player of the Year).

The biggest cheer of the evening was for Clubman of the Year, deservedly collected by Lynne Hannam.

After the presentations, club chairman Dean Wilkinson paid special thanks to main club sponsor Paul Riddell Skip Hire; retiring club secretary Michael Devereux and club stalwart Pete Jackson, who stands down from playing for the club after 20 years service.

Winter nets have now started at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School on a Thursday night from 8pm to 10pm.
