Horncastle Saturday XI welcomed Haxey to Coronation Walk for a Lincs League Division 2 game on Saturday, but once again the home side batsmen were unable to capitalise on the team’s excellent performance in the field.

Nic Hill had last season’s regulars Gareth Jones and Jamie Lewis available along with Michael Harness and previous club junior William Wood in the line ups for the first time this season.

Haxey won the toss and elected to bat. With the exception of opener Barlow (61) the visitors struggled to cope with the green wicket and tight bowling and fielding from Horncastle.

After their allotted overs Haxey finished on 141 for 8. Pick of the Horncastle bowlers was Hughes with 4 for 42 and Lewis 2 for 47.

Opening batsman Harry Smith (47) continued his rich vein on form, but for the second game in succession the middle order failed to build on the opening platform eventually being bowled out for only 95 runs.
