CRICKET: Horncastle aiming for Trophy boost

Horncastle Cricket Club will be aiming to build on a double success last weekend when they open their challenge for the George Marshall Trophy against Haxey at Coronation Walk tomorrow (Saturday).

Horncastle’s young guns opened their winning account in the County League last Saturday with a well-deserved victory against Hartsholme seconds.

They followed up on Sunday with an impressive success against Nocton in a Group A game in the new Premier Trophy.

Now, skipper Nick Paige will be hoping his side can continue their impressive form against Haxey.

It promises to be a tough test for Horncastle’s young side who play in Division One of the County League while Haxey line-up in the Premier Division.

Apart from Paige’s own batting skills, all-rounder Harry Smith will be a key figure for Horncastle after his impressive display against Hartsholme.

Smith top scored with the bat and then took six wickets as Hartsholme - chasing a score of 113 - were dismissed for 90.

*Revesby will be looking to bounce back to winning ways on Sunday when they entertain unbeaten Woodhall Spa in Division One of the Chattertons McKinnells League.

Despite losing against Morton last weekend, newly promoted Revesby still head the table with two wins and a defeat from their three league games to date.

They set a formidable total against Morton with Jamie Lewis (64) and Gordon Lane (44) leading the way in score of 206-4.

However, Morton overtook that total for the loss of only five wickets.

Woodhall Spa maintined their 100 per cent record with a seven wicket win against Nettleham, Lewis Holmes (53 no out) impressing in a successful run chase.
