Woodhall Spa batsman Jonny Cheer helped lead the way as Lincolnshire gained their first Minor Counties Championship win of the season at Northumberland this week.

Cheer, fresh from a century in Woodhall’s last game, cracked an unbeaten 72 in Lincolnshire’s second innings to set up a 172 runs victory.

The game was well balanced after the first innings. Lincolnshire totalled 325 with Cheer making 28.

Northumberland replied with 337 against a Lincolnshire attack minus injured Woodhall all-rounder Matthew Sargeant.

Lincolnshire then piled up 377-4 declared off 77 overs in their second innings, Cheer lending excellent support to top scorer Karanjit Bhansal (12&).

The game appeared to be heading for a draw as Northumberland’s reply stood at 121-3 midway through the final afternoon.

However, a quick fire burst of wickets saw them collapse to 167 all out with Ben Powell picking up 4-32 for a delighted Lincolnshire squad.
