Wednesday, 11.50am - WHAT a fantastic end to the 2009 Junior Honda Championship held at Tattershall Karting Centre.
Thomas Roark, a pupil at Banovallum School, who competed in his first full year in this Honda class, ended the championship in joint first place with Nathan Bradshaw, having both scored 238 points.
In a tie-break situation they both had to drop their lowest point score of the season.
This meant Thomas had to give his first place away by a mere two points.
The final meeting was held on December 13 in very slippery, wet conditions.
Thomas's kart wet settings were couldn't have been better, with him taking two seconds and a third place in the qualifying heats to put him on the front row of the grid for the final.
Yet again it was Nathan and Thomas that led the field in these very tricky conditions, with Nathan leading the race for six of the eight laps, being pushed hard by Thomas.
The pressure finally worked causing Nathan to make a big mistake and spin, allowing Thomas to take advantage of the situation and he took it all the way to the chequered flag.
Next season Thomas will be moving on into the Junior Rotax Max class, hoping to gain the same success.
