WOODHALL Spa's annual 10k Road Race was held on Sunday morning with a record number of entries setting off from Jubilee Park.
Chairman Graham Keegan said: "We had a very successful day with a record number of entrants – 1200, then a further 250 or so in the Fun Run.

"Woodhall has now tripled its number of competitors over the last few years – we must be doing something right!

"The positive feedback we are getting is very good news – the fact that our event is run just by volunteers as opposed to others which are managed by city councils; and, that we score well against such events is a big compliment to Woodhall Spa."

Mr Keegan also expressed his thanks to the 90 people who turned out to help at the race and said the event could not go ahead without their support.

The proceeds from the road race will be divided between local charities.

The runners included 16 officers from Lincolnshire Police who set out to raise around £3,000 for the armed forces charity Help the Heroes who support wounded service personnel.

Insp Simon Elmer, an ex serviceman and member of the Woodhall Spa 10k Road Race committee completed the course in 53 minutes.

He said: "I'm absolutely delighted with my personal time, having improved on last year by several minutes.

"The turnout this year has been tremendous and I'd like to thank my colleagues from Lincolnshire Police who have all helped to raise money for such a deserving cause.

"I'd also like to thank those attending the race who so kindly donated cash at our Help For Heroes stand.

"It's quite humbling to see the depth of feeling for our armed forces and it makes me very proud to have been part of it."
