Horncastle 22 Gainsborough 8

AFTER two wins from two so far in 2010, this was seen as an ideal opportunity to keep the run going, however Horncastle started slowly and where soon under pressure on their own try line.
Strong castle defence held Gainsborough up over the line on two occasions early on.
They where able to ride out the storm and start to build on their own game.

The scrums where untidy and number eight Scott Maxted had to tidy things up at the bac
k before off-loading to Tom Laird.
Fly half Johnny Bryant's kicking game gained Horncastle good field position.

From a scrum on the 22, the ball went to the blind the side to Phil Wingham who broke through three tackles before making his way over the try line.

Despite the score being 5-0, Horncastle kept good momentum and several breaks from Phil Wingham, Simon Cooper and Andy Linkman all ended with good covering tackles from the opposing full back.

However after some more sustained pressure, and the ball being held up over the line, it was Phil Wingham who crossed yet again under the posts converted by Simon Cooper. The first half ended 12-0.

The Second half started as the first finished with Horncastle the dominant side, making all their tackles in defence and breaking the line in attack.

Horncastle kept the pressure on and after several phases Jake Pryer hit the line at speed breaking through a couple of tackles to score to the left of the posts.

Horncastle, 17-0, continued to pile on the pressure and Johnny bryants kicking game was exposing all sorts of holes and weaknesses behind gainsborough from a returning kick Phil Wingham ran from inside his own half and around several opposing players to score in the far corner, leaving the score at 22-0.

Unfortunately with that try Horncastle seemed to slack ever so slightly enabling Gainsborough's forwards to become more involved in the game.
And when awarded with a penalty in front of the posts, Gainsborough decided to put some points on the board and kicked at goal.

Horncastle couldnt quite seem to get a holding back in the game as Gainsborough piled forward taking their first and last try of the game.

Training is Tuesdays at 7pm on the playing fields in Horncastle.
